Ayia Napa

Overview

Introduction

Once a simple fishing village, Ayia Napa (in Greek Cyprus) is now a popular beach resort—about half a million tourists visit annually. Visitors can enjoy beaches, water-skiing and snorkeling or go sightseeing (there's a 16th-century monastery in the center, quite incongruous amidst all the bars and restaurants). At night, the town becomes a lively clubbing destination. Ayia Napa was developed as an alternative to nearby Famagusta, on the Turkish side. For a day trip, visit Larnaca or Lefkara, or the Troodos Mountains. 40 mi/65 km southeast of Nicosia.
