Just got back from a short trip (four days) on the new revitalized Century. With 55 million dollars spent, a very good ship (twice sailed on her before) is now a great ship.
At first it's hard to see what has been changed on the outside because it looks the same. Then you realize that 300 new balconies have been added that were not there before. "How can you miss them?" I asked my wife. But that sums up the changes. They are so very well done you just do not notice them until you compare what was there before.
On the inside all the rooms (we had 9126, 9130, 9134 for our short family trip) are completely refurbished, new bathrooms with modern fittings and new lighting, new furniture and carpets, new beds and bedding and big flat screen TVs that offer so many services! But, boy is it hard to change channels to watch TV.
The new "Murano" specialty restaurant is very good with fantastic views across the ocean, but a bit on the small side with only about 15 tables. My (grown up) family loved the AquaSpa onboard Century. It was completely new and there were 101 ways to spend lots of money – and we did. Some things never change, like the cruise director's jokes! But the new ice bar was fantastic. What a great concept, and what a great place to unwind. It replaced the old Sports Bar, so there is nowhere to watch sports now, or if there was I did not find it. The completely refurbished Ocean Grill is very well laid out and much better. Apart from that, the boat looks the same.
So what about the trip? Well, it was Dover, day at sea, Guernsey and back to Dover. It was short but perfectly formed. We choose Celebrity because we like the style and the attentive crew. What we also got was great entertainment and a sunburn. What more could you ask of a cruise?! |
