Generally, we enjoyed the cruise but found the amenities were not always on track. The only thing that was consistent was the entertainment -- absolutely wonderful! We overheard many complaints about the ship (bathrooms, heat, services, etc) but shared great conversations with people who had nothing bad to say at all. We had a particular aversion to the Cruise Director but found many of the staff interesting and enjoyable.

Statendam was the sixth Holland America Line ship on which we made a cruise. Stepping on board is for us feeling home again. Smiling friendly crew showing you the way to your cabin. We prefer a late check in so usually the stateroom is ready than. Whatever stateroom you choose also on this ship space enough to stow away all you take with you. The ship belongs to the elder ones of the fleet, just had a renovation, which we saw in our stateroom and all over the ship. The historic elevator had been removed which left some nice extra seating space in the atrium. The three floor open atrium houses the front office - excursion desk -shops. In the middle a nice peace of art which reaches from first to third floor. Dining : spending some 19 days on board we have been able to try all the facilities offered Main dining room offers two choices : open seating or reserved seating.
