In the Nafud Desert 400 mi/625 km northwest of Riyadh, Hail, Saudi Arabia, was the home of the Rashid family, who contested the Saud family for control of the country. It merits half a day to see the market and the ruined Rashid palace and mosque. Nomads still go there to obtain supplies.
