Overview
Introduction
Located 300 mi/485 km north of Montevideo, Artigas, Uruguay, sits in the middle of cattle country. The town, named after Jose Gervasio Artigas (a patriot in the 1811 war with Brazil), was a frontier stop on the railway route to Brazil and is just across the border from Quarai, Brazil, near the Cuareim River.
