Ambrym is a relatively unspoiled island famous for its volcanoes (Benbow and Marum) and handicrafts (tamtams and carvings). Ambrym islanders are also said to specialize in black magic.
Adventurous travelers can hire local guides to lead the strenuous climb to the volcanoes in the center of the island. If you visit in August, be sure to attend a Rom dance ceremony, more common in villages on the northern part of the island. The costumes the dancers wear are simply amazing. 100 mi/160 km north of Efate.
