Introduction

About a one-and-a-half-hour drive (90 mi/145 km) south of Dubai, the refreshing oasis city of Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, whose name means "The Eye," is well worth a visit. It is the largest inland city of the Abu Dhabi Emirate

Supplied with water by surrounding oases, Al Ain is blessed with lush green and flowering blooms year-round. Al Ain enjoys its own microclimate and offers welcome respite from the heat and humidity. This local holiday destination has been popular with the sheikhs for many years. More recently, it has garnered interest from overseas tourists captivated by its charm and greenery.

Many of the old archaeological sites have been preserved in Al Ain. Take an easy, scenic drive up to Jebel Hafeet, a mountain resort. Along the way, enjoy the splendor of the magnificent mountain range and a breathtaking view of the city from the top. You could spend a night or two at the Mercure Grand Hotel Jebel Hafeet, located minutes from the top of the mountain.
