Rodney Bay is the name for both a body of water and a neighborhood of Gros Islet. It is a yachting center and one of the island's principal hotel areas, with a nice beach and many restaurants—all within walking distance of each other. This is the most developed part of the island outside of Castries, which is located 6 mi/10 km to the south, but the area is tastefully built, with red-roofed shops and condominiums.
The Rodney Bay Marina is an active 232-slip port filled with all types of boats, including megayachts from around the world. Reduit Beach is a mile-/kilometer-long stretch of white sand shaded by palm trees. Hotels, beach bars, vendors and watersports shacks line the shore.
The main road behind the waterfront is known as the Rodney Bay Strip or Restaurant Row. After dark the street fills with locals and tourists looking for good food, loud music, dancing and live entertainment. Nearby is JQ Rodney Bay Mall.
On weekends, late-night hunger can be sated just across from the marina, where food vans line the road.
