Lifou

Lifou

Overview

Introduction

Administrative center of the Loyalty Islands, Lifou is a popular tourist destination, although you couldn't call it spoiled. Accommodations consist of one comfortable, though simple, hotel and several basic guesthouses. This is the largest raised atoll in the world—it's bigger than Tahiti—and it's pockmarked with limestone caves and swimming holes. It's also surrounded by some of the world's most beautiful—and undeveloped—beaches. Nearly all of Lifou's 10,000 residents are Melanesian. 120 mi/200 km northeast of Noumea.
