Port Vila

Port Vila

Overview

Introduction

Port Vila is the economic and commercial capital of Vanuatu, a volcanic island archipelago located in the southern Pacific Ocean. Agriculture and fishing are the island's most important industries, though tourism is growing as Air Vanuatu offers service from Australia and other neighboring nations to Bauerfield Airport, which is located 10 minutes outside of Port Vila. The climate is tropical, with a dry season May-October, September being the driest month.

Port Vila claims to be the most beautiful capital in the Pacific, and it's hard to refute that title. The capital lies on a horseshoe-shaped bay on the island of Efate, and maintains beautiful beaches and stunning foliage. The city is known for the Port Vila Market, which operates Monday-Saturday and offers a wide variety of tropical fruits and vegetables, and souvenir stalls. Don't miss the Cultural Center, which houses an amazing array of Pacific artifacts.
