Bayonne

Overview

Introduction

Bayonne, France, is worth a few hours if you are in the area. Encircled by ancient fortifications, some dating to Roman times, the city boasts the wonderful Gothic St. Mary's Cathedral.

Bayonne's oldest section, a labyrinth of narrow, shaded streets, is famous for its chocolate makers and was once home to many Jews who fled Spain and Portugal during the Inquisition.
