The ancient walled city of St. Malo was once a home base for fierce corsairs (pirates), but now the city is a popular destination for visitors touring Brittany, France. St. Malo is made up of several districts, though the most popular for tourists is the Old Town, located within the walls of the citadel. Old Town is easily explored on foot and offers a profusion of shops and restaurants.
In spring and autumn, the tides can be as fierce as the pirates once were – St. Malo's bay has one of the highest tidal ranges in Europe.
