Portimao

Portimao

Overview

Introduction

A small, colorful town on the southern coast of Portugal, Portimao offers visitors access to sunny beaches and wonderful, fresh seafood. The town center is a contemporary mixture of centuries old, low-slung buildings intermixed with high rises adorned in pastel colors. Shops and bars are crowded around the town center, and visitors would be remiss to not try one of the many excellent seafood restaurants.

Portimao is also known for its sporting events, most notably the Mundialito de Futbol de Praia (the Little World Cup), which is a beach soccer tournament held in the summer, and for prestigious sailing events, including the Portugal Match Cup.
