Setubal

Setubal

Overview

Introduction

You will probably pass through industrial Setubal, Portugal, on the way to some of the seaside resorts nearby. These include Troia, a modern resort with fine beaches and good hotels; Sesimbra, a fishing town and traditional resort; and Portinho da Arrabida, a tiny village with a nice beach, backed by the verdant slopes of Arrabida Natural Park, a great place for a scenic drive.

Setubal is located 30 mi/50 km south of Lisbon and, although more industrial and built up than the neighboring towns, offers a wide range of watersports, dolphin- and bird-watching and could be a useful base for further exploration. It's also in the heart of one of Portugal's wine regions, so tastings and vineyard tours are available. Try the fresh-tasting Moscatel de Setubal fortified wine.
