Tromso

Overview

Introduction

Tromso, Norway, a former whaling station 720 mi/1,160 km north of Oslo, is home to the world's northernmost university. The compact city center has a large concentration of historic wooden houses that coexist with modern architecture.

With an active cultural scene and buzzing nightlife, Tromso is sometimes referred to as "the Paris of the North." The city offers many activities, including museums, hiking, fishing, kayaking, dog sledding and whale safaris. It is also a popular place to observe the Northern Lights.

Tromso is one place where visitors should not be afraid to drink the water. In fact, the Coca-Cola plant there is the company's only one where the local water is so clean it does not need to be purified.
