Gouda

Gouda

Overview

Introduction

Gouda is known not only for its cheese, but also for its pipes and candles. This lovely little town 25 mi/40 km southwest of Amsterdam has a large market square with a beautiful 15th-century town hall sitting in the center. Walk the narrow streets, especially in the area around St. Jans Church. Note the stained glass and 16th-century carillon, and be sure to see De Moriaan, the world's largest pipe museum. There's a wonderful cheese market on Thursday morning in July and August. Allow a full day to see Gouda.
