Annaba

Overview

Introduction

In this industrial seaport (pop. 350,000) near the Tunisian border, you'll find the 1,000-year-old Sidi Merouane Mosque and the cathedral of St. Augustine. (St. Augustine wrote his book The City of God there in the fifth century.) The cathedral is set on a hill with a wonderful view of the city and the Roman ruins of Hippo. Not too far from Annaba is the beach of Skikda, a good place to relax. 70 mi/110 km northeast of Constantine.
