Siros

Siros

Overview

Introduction

Less developed for tourism than the other Cycladic islands, Siros, also known as Syros, was once a center of commerce and shipping for the archipelago.

Today, Siros has lost its prominence, though the neoclassical mansions and elegant architecture remain. It is located 75 mi/120 km southeast of Athens.

The well-preserved old town of Ermoupoli merits a visit to see its churches and archaeological museum. While there, look for clubs featuring traditional bouzouki music.
