IntroductionThe town of Joensuu, 240 mi/385 km northeast of Helsinki, is worth a day's visit to see the Karelia House Museum (locally produced items and historical displays) and its art museum, which contains icons and Finnish art from the 19th and 20th centuries. There is also a "Fairy City" for children. In winter, there is good cross-country skiing and a weeklong chamber-music festival. In summer, there's a song festival.
