IntroductionThis village, set in the greenest and most fertile part of Yemen, will be one of the highlights of your trip: Its 13th-century architecture, palaces, narrow streets and ancient atmosphere will take you back in time. The principal site is the Queen Arwa Bint Ahmed mosque and grave in the center of town. Be aware that independent travel to Jibla is difficult—it's best seen on an escorted or hosted program. Visitors usually stay in Ibb (5 mi/8 km northeast), which is surrounded by beautiful, terraced mountains. In Old Ibb, walk along the stone-paved streets and see good examples of traditional Yemeni architecture. Outside of Ibb, you can visit the mineral baths at Hammam Damt. While there, be sure to climb the extinct volcano (there are stairs) to see its beautiful green crater lake. 100 mi/160 km south of Sana'a.
