IntroductionThe town of Edenton, one of the oldest in the state, has many reminders of North Carolina's colonial past. Once a center of commerce and society where English lords ruled, its residents staged their own revolt as Edenton ladies circulated a petition against "that pernicious custom of drinking tea" just 10 months after the Boston Tea Party foreshadowed American independence.
