IntroductionThis Delaware River town south of Wilmington is the gateway to Fort Delaware State Park. Located on Pea Patch Island, the park is only accessible by boat—ferries depart on a regular basis. The fort, which is surrounded by a moat, was used as a prison during the Civil War. Today it is a living-history museum with costumed interpreters. 13 mi/20 km south of Wilmington.
