Delaware City

This Delaware River town south of Wilmington is the gateway to Fort Delaware State Park. Located on Pea Patch Island, the park is only accessible by boat—ferries depart on a regular basis. The fort, which is surrounded by a moat, was used as a prison during the Civil War. Today it is a living-history museum with costumed interpreters. 13 mi/20 km south of Wilmington.
