IntroductionEcuador is renowned for its scenic railroad routes, some of which plunge down the steep face of the Andes range. Voyages range from a round-trip ride through the the "Devil's Nose," where the train traverses a series of zigzagging switchbacks down a nearly vertical incline between Alausi and Sibambe, to a four-day/three-night journey between Quito and Guayaquil. The latter begins in either city and makes stops along the way so that passengers spend the night in nearby hotels, not on the train itself. The Avenue of the Volcanoes is the one- or two-day round-trip ride from Quito to Boliche at the foot of Cototaxi. http://trenecuador.com
