IntroductionThis atoll is not at the top of our list, although it does have its charms. Seenu (also known as Addu), south of the equator and 300 mi/480 km south of Male', is the site of Hithadhoo, the second-largest city in the Maldives. Gan, the southernmost atoll in the archipelago, was once the site of a British Royal Air Force base and has its own airstrip. Some of the old military buildings are now foreign-owned garment factories. The Equator Village Resort on Gan, built on the foundations of former Royal Air Force barracks, offers exclusive access to some of the most unspoiled villages in the country.
