The Welland Canals' various locks make it possible for large ships to navigate through the North American-Canadian border, bypassing the Niagara Escarpment that makes passing from Lake Ontario to Lake Erie impossible. Visit Lock 3 to see this in action, peruse the gift shop, listen to a presentation or stroll through the St. Catharine's Museum, which has rotating art and history exhibitions.
Niagara Falls is one of the most beautiful natural wonders in the world, and boasts over 20 million visitors per year. Summertime is the best time to visit the falls as they are a daytime and evening attraction. During the summer months colorful floodlights illuminate the falls after dark. Cruise boats operate from docks on both sides of the falls and carry passengers into the rapids just below the falls for an exciting view.
