Overview

Introduction

Located near the Mexican border and approximately 95 mi/155 km north of Belize City, Corozal Town is often overlooked by visitors but is a friendly town with a Latin atmosphere. Increasingly popular with expats, Corozal has among the lowest prices in Belize for hotels, restaurants and real estate. It is worth a stop on the way to or from Mexico.

There are no beaches, but the Bay of Corozal (also called the Bay of Chetumal) is beautiful. Nearby are the post-classic Maya ruins of Santa Rita and Cerros.

I have had the pleasure of embarking on wilderness-filled safaris, savoring exquisite wine with the locals in quaint European villages, trekking through the rice fields of Asia, and marveling at the pristine azure waters of the Mediterranean and Caribbean.
