Guest Post: Traveling During COVID In 2021

Guest post by Paulette Hannah When I retired my goal was to travel the world during the “go-go” years of retirement. For five years my husband and I have been realizing that dream. In fact, 2020 was to be our most traveled year ever. We had trips planned for every month, including two European river cruises on the Danube with land packages included. And then, Covid-19 spoiled it all. Now we’re fully vaccinated […] The post Guest Post: Traveling During COVID In 2021 appeared first on River Cruise Advisor.

Postcards From The Magical Moselle

Two years ago, I posted The Moselle: Europe’s Most Beautiful River – At Least During The Fall. The Moselle was just as enchanting when I cruised on Crystal Debussy earlier this month. The wine harvest was in full swing, with workers plucking grapes from vineyards that seemed to run straight up the steep hillsides. The weather was stunning along the Moselle, with sunny days and blue skies The post Postcards From The Magical Moselle appeared first on River Cruise Advisor.

Is Viking Orion The Safest Ship At Sea?

After almost a year and a half without stepping foot on a ship, I was invited on an ocean cruise. I emphasize ocean because I have had the privilege of taking four cruises, both river and ocean, within the span of just over two months. The first cruise that I took this year was a river cruise. The return to river cruising did not seem nearly as daunting as the return to ocean cruising did. When I got the invite from a river cruise company I automatically said yes, but when it came to ocean cruises I was a bit more hesitant. My main concern? My safety. I Cruised Crystal Debussy In October. Was This The Same Crystal That We Knew & Loved Before The Pandemic? What Changed & Why.

On my October 2019 river cruise, Crystal had set the bar high, and naturally I was curious to find out if the pandemic had forced the company to cut corners on my cruise in October 2021. Would the food quality have suffered due to cost-cutting? Would service be as exemplary as it had been on Bach? Would the champagne be poured as freely? And what about that caviar? Would they still be dishing that out? The post I Cruised Crystal Debussy In October. Was This The Same Crystal That We Knew & Loved Before The Pandemic? What Changed & Why. appeared first on River Cruise Advisor.

AmaSiena: My Overall Impressions

At the end of August, I was invited to sail on AmaSiena for its Christening cruise. This invitation was a big deal, not only because it was a Christening cruise but also because this was my first cruise back since COVID.  Though I feel like I have covered a lot about my sailing, I spent a lot more time covering COVID than I did the ship itself. So today, we will do just that.  The post AmaSiena: My Overall Impressions appeared first on River Cruise Advisor.

Testing, Masks & Vaccines: How Three Different River Cruise Companies Are Handling The Comeback

In the past two months, Britton and I have traveled to Europe for three river cruises. Britton cruised on both Avalon Waterways in France in early October and on AmaWaterways on the Rhine in August. I cruised on Crystal Debussy on the Rhine and Moselle rivers, having returned just yesterday. All three cruises were wonderful, and we’ll be writing much more about our trips in the coming weeks. For now, however, we summarize how three different cruise companies handled testing, vaccine and masking requirements.  The post Testing, Masks & Vaccines: How Three Different River Cruise Companies Are Handling The Comeback appeared first on River Cruise Advisor.

A Taste Of Crystal Debussy: The Vintage Room

One day after disembarking Crystal Debussy, I received a phone call from one of the six guests who accompanied me. “Possibly the best cruise ever,” the experienced cruiser said. I had to agree. Just as was the case with Crystal Bach on the Rhine and Moselle in October of 2019, Crystal Debussy exceeded our expectations. Exploring The Pre-Pandemic World Before Boarding Crystal Debussy: Welcome To Amsterdam

I am among those who feel like a canary in a coal mine. This afternoon I boarded Crystal Debussy. Before doing so, however, I had to show a negative Covid test. Crystal provided the testing and fast results, and thankfully, my results were negative. If I can continue to show negative tests, including the one before flying back to the United States, this canary in a coal mine will be signaling the way ahead for others who long to visit Europe.
