The Moment I Love Best About Cruising, What’s Yours?

Those of us who have cruised before can probably think back to the moments we loved best about cruising. For me, it was the moment the ship sailed away from dock. Didn’t matter whether it was a big ship, mid-sized ship, expedition vessel, river cruiser or barge, the moment when the propellers began to turn, that’s when cruising had me in its steely grip. What about you? Where do you look forward to cruising from once we're released from the global pandemic, and what’s your favorite moment on a ship? Over the Top: Bold, Brash and Beautiful – Seven Seas Splendor

It’s been a tough month for everyone, given COVID-19 concerns and precautions. The situation has caused major cruise companies to voluntarily suspend operations across the globe, at least for a month or so, varying by line. In many ways, the situation is akin to unexpectedly running into this fierce dragon above (an art piece and favorite “selfie” spot on Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ new Seven Seas Splendor).  But whenever major cruise lines re-start service and whenever readers are ready to sail in the future, it’s great to know that luxurious new ships are out there. Hence, here’s part two of our look at that 750-passenger ship.  Two weeks ago, we ran a story about Seven Seas Splendor’s new 4,443-square-foot Regent Suite. In this second piece, we provide visuals of other spaces.  The post Over the Top: Bold, Brash and Beautiful – Seven Seas Splendor appeared first on Avid Cruiser Cruise Reviews, Luxury Cruises, Expedition Cruises.

Final Postcard From A Cruise Around The World: Townsville, Australia

After our two-day visit to Sydney on March 7-8 (which it turns out coincided with that of Tom Hanks and his wife), our 2020 Grand World Voyage took us to Townsville, North Queensland, a frequent call –and one of our favorites in Australia—during Holland America’s Amsterdam’s world cruises. *At the time of publishing, all guests have been notified that HAL's world cruise will conclude and guests will disembark in Fremantle, Australia. No further updates have been given. The post Final Postcard From A Cruise Around The World: Townsville, Australia appeared first on Avid Cruiser Cruise Reviews, Luxury Cruises, Expedition Cruises.

What Are We Doing During The COVID-19 Outbreak?

A lot has happened in the past week. COVID-19 has become more widespread throughout the world, especially in the United States. A bit closer to home, someone on my sailing aboard MSC Meraviglia tested positive for the virus – and I began to show symptoms. Let me start off, first, by saying that I am okay. I have had a dry cough and fever, along with a few other symptoms related to the virus, but my breathing is fine. I am 24 years old. I have very little to worry about in terms of the impact of this virus on […] The post What Are We Doing During The COVID-19 Outbreak? appeared first on Avid Cruiser Cruise Reviews, Luxury Cruises, Expedition Cruises.

Should You Stay? Or Should You Go?

For those of us who are on river cruises soon, a prevalent question can be summed up in the first two lines of The Clash’s 1982 hit, Should I Stay Or Should I Go? It’s an easier question to answer for hesitant travelers who stand to lose only fractions of their substantial investments than it […] The post Should You Stay? Postcards From Around The World: Papeete, Tahiti

Paul Gauguin came to Tahiti, and so did the likes of James Michener and Herman Melville, among others. It’s easy to see why: the beauty of the island with its green-clad mountains, rainforests and waterfalls and its Polynesian- and French-accented- ambiance and joie de vivre lure one and all. We have been lured a half dozen times, the latest aboard the current 2020 World Cruise of Holland America’s Amsterdam. Boarding A Ship In The Midst Of The Coronavirus Outbreak

We've gotten many questions from our readers about the impacts of Coronavirus on travel plans. Will cruises be canceled or put on hold? Will travel bans be effective? WEBINAR: Is This Included In My River Cruise Fare?

Knowing what's included in your river cruise (and what's not) can sometimes be a deciding factor as to which river cruise company to book. Calculating The Real Cost Of Your River Cruise

Normally, when you purchase an item, pricing is pretty straightforward. That's not always the case with river cruising. For example, you may see a river cruise for $2,999 per person. Sounds great. But port charges aren't included. That can add another $300 per person. You may need to budget for gratuities, another $100 per person. We outline some factors that you will want to consider when calculating the cost of your river cruise. The post Calculating The Real Cost Of Your River Cruise appeared first on River Cruise Advisor.

Postcards From Around The World: Pacific Crossing

My husband Humberto and I had crossed the Pacific Ocean several times before so we were already keenly aware of its immensity, and were so again now as our current world cruise on Holland America’s Amsterdam sailed on it for 10 days from San Antonio (the port for Santiago), Chile, towards Papeete, Tahiti, French Polynesia, with a call at Easter Island and scenic cruising at Pitcairn Island along the way. How Are Ocean Cruises Different From River Cruises?

Thinking of switching from ocean cruising to river cruising, or the other way around, can be daunting.
