Sailing Takes Me Away: 5 Places I Hope To Sail Next Summer

A few weeks ago, we polled our readers about when they would be ready to return to the seas, and about 70 percent said that they would be ready to sail again by the summer of 2021. There's nothing better than cruising through the landscapes of Europe on a riverboat and exploring different ports. Since we can't currently sail the rivers, we will use this time to dream about future travels. Here are five itineraries I'm dreaming of sailing next summer. Stepping Ashore: Why I Long For Expedition Cruising’s Return

Seabourn Quest Zodiacs
The story of why I love expedition cruising begins not with a ship, but with something far smaller: an inflatable boat. Without the Zodiac, arguably the best known of inflatable boats, it would not be possible to step ashore in the world’s remote regions. The Moment I Love Best About Cruising, What’s Yours?

Those of us who have cruised before can probably think back to the moments we loved best about cruising. For me, it was the moment the ship sailed away from dock. Didn’t matter whether it was a big ship, mid-sized ship, expedition vessel, river cruiser or barge, the moment when the propellers began to turn, that’s when cruising had me in its steely grip. What about you? Where do you look forward to cruising from once we're released from the global pandemic, and what’s your favorite moment on a ship? Over the Top: Bold, Brash and Beautiful – Seven Seas Splendor

It’s been a tough month for everyone, given COVID-19 concerns and precautions. The situation has caused major cruise companies to voluntarily suspend operations across the globe, at least for a month or so, varying by line. In many ways, the situation is akin to unexpectedly running into this fierce dragon above (an art piece and favorite “selfie” spot on Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ new Seven Seas Splendor).  But whenever major cruise lines re-start service and whenever readers are ready to sail in the future, it’s great to know that luxurious new ships are out there. Hence, here’s part two of our look at that 750-passenger ship.  Two weeks ago, we ran a story about Seven Seas Splendor’s new 4,443-square-foot Regent Suite. We Missed The Boat, But You Don’t Have To

Yep, we missed the boat alright. But we did so on purpose. That's because on a barge you can cycle or walk along the old tow paths that line the canals in France, chasing the barge, but chasing at a slow pace. On this day, Tamera and I had lunch on the canal banks, then pedaled several miles to re-board Madeleine at a lock farther down the canal. Alsace, as you can see in the photo, was stunning during the October trip that we hosted. I like barge cruising so much that I am hosting three more in April. All three are sold out, with the exception of one stateroom, and that one stateroom just happens to be on my trip from Strasbourg to LaGarde, in Alsace. That one stateroom also can be yours. And, sure, if you're traveling with me, you can miss the boat too. I'll pedal along with you. The post We Missed The Boat, But You Don’t Have To appeared first on River Cruise Advisor.

6 Types Of Travelers Who Are Perfect For AmaMagna, Are You One Of Them?

AmaWaterways now has two styles of river cruising. The first style is one that AmaWaterways has built its reputation on: river cruising on sleek, classic vessels with a single main restaurant, one alternative dining venue, a lounge and comfortable staterooms starting at around 160 square feet. The second style was introduced this past spring on the new AmaMagna, nearly double the width of the classic river cruisers. This is no longer river cruising as you once knew it. I was skeptical at first. Could AmaWaterways' new AmaMagna be the perfect transitional ship for small ship ocean cruisers who are wanna-be river cruisers? I won't keep you in suspense. The answer is, possibly. I'm not hedging by taking the middle ground. After all, small ship ocean cruisers know well what they have to give up to test the rivers. That changed this past spring when AmaWaterways introduced a ship that was nearly double the width of the classic river cruisers. After spending last week sailing from Budapest to Vilshofen (as a guest of AmaWaterways), I can say with certainty that this is no longer river cruising as you once knew it.
