You will want to make the most of your time ashore, so please be sure to pack comfortable walking shoes with good ankle support for cobblestone streets and uneven ground. We also recommend one pair of formal shoes. Sturdy sandals are a good option for daytime wear.
Wrinkle-resistant, easy-care clothing that is color-coordinated so that each garment can be worn with several others (cotton/polyester is lightweight and washes and dries easily). Choose clothes that can be layered to allow for variable temperatures (inside and out) and altitudes.
Everyday slacks, khakis, walking shorts and everyday skirts/dresses are recommended. “Smart casual” works for most cruise and shore situations, plus one more formal outfit (black tie is not necessary) for special onboard events or an evening at the theatre. Women find that a cocktail dress or two comes in handy no matter the destination; men may want to bring one sport jacket for dressier restaurant venues.
For warmer temperatures, lightweight clothing that can be layered, such as a mix of sweaters, lightweight knit shirts, slacks and walking shorts. For early spring and late fall departures, sweatshirts, heavier cotton or wool tops, long-sleeved shirts and corduroy or heavy khaki pants are suitable. Be aware that standards of modesty vary; shorts and bare midriffs are not suitable for some shore excursions, even in warm climates.
Additional Suggestions for Your Packing Checklist:
Please contact your cruise line and air carrier for any additional regulations. Airline baggage restrictions change frequently. Overweight or excess baggage charges may apply. Onboard the ships and motor coaches, storage space is very limited. One (1) suitcase per person and one (1) carry-on bag per person (excluding purses) is reasonable. Fees may be assessed on-site for excess baggage.
