Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) operates non-stop service from New York (Newark) to Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm, from Chicago to Copenhagen and Stockholm, from Washington, D.C. to Copenhagen and from San Francisco to Copenhagen. From its hubs at Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm, SAS serves cities throughout the Nordics and the rest of Europe. On its non-stop transatlantic flights, currently, SAS offers wide-body Airbus A330 and A340 aircraft, audio/video entertainment at every seat and EuroBonus frequent flyer points. For the past 4 years, SAS has ranked among the world’s most punctual airlines.
The US market is handled by SAS’ local organization based in Northern New Jersey and boosts a fleet with 12 new Airbus aircraft. SAS and Airbus have signed an order for 12 new aircraft, eight new A350-900 XWB and four A330-300 Enhanced. The first A350-900 is due in 2018, and already in 2015, the fleet will be upgraded with the first couple of A330-300 Enhanced to replace existing A340 when the current leasing agreements expire. In the meantime, SAS will commence the cabin upgrade of seven aircraft in the existing fleet for completion in 2015.The A350 is a completely new aircraft type incorporating advanced aerodynamics, the latest materials and system technology available.
New Service Concept
SAS has launched its new service class concept to create the most modern flight experience. The service classes that were created 30 years ago do not reflect the needs of the modern traveller.
Here is a brief description:
SAS Go (Economy) – For customers who want to have a lot. It always includes a checked bag at no extra charge, as well as several services to save time, including internet check-in.
SAS Plus (Premium Economy) – For customers who wish to have even more. It includes two checked bags at no extra charge, SAS Fast Track, lounge access to SAS lounges, complimentary meals and drinks onboard as well as 200% EuroBonus points; all of this is on top of the benefits offered by SAS Go.
SAS Business - For customers who want the best of everything, extensive ground services such as easy check-in options, fast track security, where available, lounge access, and the in-flight experience includes Business Sleeper, Scandinavian cuisine and personal entertainment system is offered.
In Europe, the change to SAS Go and SAS Plus has also included a brand new concept on board, with the traditional airplane tray being replaced by an onboard cafe.
